Punteggio 96/100 · Da bere 2005-2011, Robert Parker, Feb 2005

One of the finest Pinot Noirs Mike Sullivan has yet produced is the 2002 Pinot Noir Arrendel Vineyard (325 cases from a 30-year old vineyard). From a cold sector of the Green Valley sub-appellation of the Russian River, the extraordinary nose of kirsch liqueur, raspberries, smoked herbs, game, and Asian spices is followed by medium to full-bodied flavors with superb purity, a fascinating texture, and a 60+ second finish. A compelling example of a Burgundian-styled Pinot Noir, it is no wimpy wine at 14.8% alcohol, and yields were a minuscule 0.86 tons of fruit per acre. This 2002 Pinot should drink well for 5-6 years, but who can resist it now? Tel. (800) 588-0234; Fax (800) 600-5895

(from vines planted in 1975) Full ruby-red. Varietally expressive aromas of wild berries, cola, sassafras, roasted herbs and smoky oak; reminded me of Morey-Saint-Denis. Sweet, dense and highly concentrated, with the wild berry flavors nicely framed by juicy acidity. Bright and classically dry, finishing young and strong. This was bottled in January of '04, while the other pinots were finished last August.
