NV Brut Premier Cru Grande Reserve is gorgeous. It shows remarkable depth and balance for a NV bottling. The wine blossoms beautifully on the mid-palate, with expressive pears, apples, flowers and depth, all of which come together in a finessed, totally irresistible style. The Grande Reserve is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir reserve in cask. This is Lot # L18053. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015. Veuve Fourny is one of Champagne’s many under-the-radar producers that deserve to be better known. This is a superb set of wines from Emanuel and Charles-Henry Fourny. The NV Brut Premier Cru Grande Reserve is an intense, pointed wine with layers of well-articulated fruit. The wine reveals gorgeous length and a clean finish laced with juicy pears, roasted nuts and nutmeg. The Grande Reserve is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir. This is Lot 1707, disgorged May 5, 2010. The NV Brut Grand Reserve introduces 20% Pinot Noir into the blend and is aged in cask. Here there is an additional level of up-front plumpness although the wine loses some steam on the finish. Still, I can’t help thinking that this wine will benefit from a few more months in bottle. This is Lot 1605, disgorged 5/16/2008 Anticipated maturity: 2008-2010.
