The 2009 Chardonnay Torchiana is a marvelously deep, rich, powerful wine bursting with fruit and sheer personality. This is an especially large-scaled generous Chardonnay oozing with fruit. It is an intense, deep wine to drink now and over the next few years. The Torchiana is an old-vine Hyde selection.

The 2009 Chardonnay Torchiana is a marvelously deep, rich, powerful wine bursting with fruit and sheer personality. This is an especially large-scaled generous Chardonnay oozing with fruit. It is an intense, deep wine to drink now and over the next few years. The Torchiana is an old-vine Hyde selection. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. This is a dazzling set of wines from Tor Kenward and his long-time winemaker Jeff Ames. Frankly, I could have spent an entire afternoon delving further into these fabulous wines. The 2009 Cabernets capture the best qualities of this refined, polished vintage, but the 2010s, which I tasted from barrel, are potentially even better. Tel. (707) 963-3100
Pale yellow. Subtle aromas of peach, lemon drop, apple and brown spices. Fruity and sweet but with edgy acidity currently keeping the wine's fruit under wraps. Fairly large-scaled, deep chardonnay (14.9% alcohol) that still needs time to harmonize and open. The uncompromisingly dry finish shows a lightly phenolic character.
