(60% new French oak): Bright ruby. Sexy, oak-spiced cherry-cola and spicecake scents, along with a suave vanilla quality. Smoky, penetrating bitter cherry and smoky mineral flavors are sweetened by a mocha nuance and show impressive precision. Supple and seamless on the clinging finish, which features velvety tannins and an echo of vanillin oak.

Moving on to the reds and a medium-bodied, elegant and finesse-driven 2011, the Pinot Noir Julia’s Vineyard offers a brilliant bouquet of forest floor, autumn leaves, crushed flowers and primarily red-slanted fruit. Silky, finely constructed and already supple and approachable, it should drink nicely for 5-6 years. Drink now-2019. This was a classy, character filled lineup of wines by the folks at Foxen. Tel. Juicy, soft and expressive, the 2011 Pinot Noir Julia's Vineyard impresses for its exuberance and polish. Sweet red berries, spices, mint and French oak all jump from the glass in a surprisingly overt, racy Pinot loaded with personality. The Julia's emerges from a parcel within Cambria planted with the Pommard clone, which gives the wine much of its flashiness and raciness. This is a fabulous showing from Foxen.
