First made in 2002 (it was renamed to Lemorel Estate in 2012, which is the original name of the estate winery/property), the 2015 Zinfandel Lemorel Estate comes from very old vines that don’t ripen until the end of September and October. This bright, juicy, downright classy Zinfandel gives up beautiful notes of plums, spiced cherries, crushed violets, and complex cedar and sandalwood. It’s a more elegant, vibrant, complex style of Zinfandel that will age gracefully for a decade or more.

The 2015 Zinfandel Lemorel Estate is fabulous. That is the good news. The not so good news is that production is just 93 cases from 7 acres of vineyard. In the glass, the 2015 is remarkably fresh and expressive. Red fruit, blood orange, rose petal, pomegranate and mint infuse this racy, supple Zinfandel with tons of character. What I like most about the 2015 is the interplay of textural richness and brightness.
Of all the wines in this range, the 2015 Zinfandel Lemorel Estate appears to be the least influenced by the freakish conditions of 2015. Its personality is very much intact. Rich and sumptuous on the palate, with striking freshness and a good bit of bright acid pop, the 2015 exudes energy and class. It should be absolutely gorgeous once it goes into bottle.
