2012 Pott Cabernet Sauvignon Le Nouveau Western Star

Rich and exuberant to the core, the 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Nouveau Western is another absolutely gorgeous wine from Aaron Pott. The 2012 is endowed with a real sense of explosive power and pure, unbridled energy. The aromas and flavors are enveloping from the start, as take hold of all the senses through to the seamless, layered finish.

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Le Nouveau Western Star Vineyard comes from a site originally planted by Ric Forman and David Abreu on pure gravelly clay loam soils. Beringer and Etude have done some fabulous work from this site, and this is another gorgeous effort. Lots of blackberry, blackcurrant, dusty, loamy soil, sweet licorice, incense and camphor emerge from this deep, rich Cabernet. Pott’s vineyard rows are planted with the Martha’s Clone of Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from the late Joe Heitz’s legendary Martha’s Vineyard. This is a beauty to drink over the next 12-15 years.

Dark ruby-red. High-toned spices, licorice and mint on the slightly medicinal, old-style nose. Densely packed and sweet but not heavy, with sound acidity giving the middle palate a sappy quality. From vines planted in the late '80s. A bit of an oddball but with an attractive light touch.
