Although Hall is in St. Helena, they have produced a 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap. A Châteaux Margaux-ish style of wine, with floral notes intermixed with blueberry, black raspberry, and blackcurrant, the wine has a hint of minerality that adds to the complex aromatics. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, the wine is still an infant but has at least three decades or more of upside potential. The finish is long, rich and reassuring. This is a wine to put away for 4-5 years and drink over the following three decades.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon (Stags Leap) is one of the bigger, richer wines in the lineup. A blast of dark blue and black fruit, smoke, licorice, menthol and dark spices hits the palate. Ample, large-scaled and baritone in its expression, the 2013 shows the more virile side of the Stags Leap appellation.
The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap is a terrific example of the Hall style at its best. This site, which lies next to parcels used in Shafer's Hillside Select, as the inherent depth and pedigree to marry well with the approach to extraction here. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, mint and exotic spices are all beautifully delineated. Expressive, dense and totally vivid, the 2013 Stags Leap is shaping up to be a real beauty.
