Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2020-2035, William Kelley, Wine Advocate, Apr 2018

A magnificent wine, produced from the first pressing of Guffens' highest altitude, stoniest parcels, the 2015 Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Jus des Hautes Vignes reveals a profound bouquet of preserved citrus, grilled tangerine and white flowers, with subtle top notes of wheat toast, petrol, smoke and empyreumatic aromas reminiscent of Barsac (Guffens in fact describes this as "a dry Barsac"). On the palate, the wine is amazingly multidimensional, intense and textural, marrying tongue-tingling tension with striking volume and amplitude which persists through the long, penetrating finish.

(from Sûr La Roche, Les Crays and Les Croux, all in Vergisson): Bright yellow. Knockout nose combines peach, apple and smoky, salty mineral nuances. Highly concentrated and silky on entry, with flavors of acidulated peach and spices intensified by penetrating lemony acidity (Guffens told me that this wine's 4.6 grams per liter acidity is among the highest ever at this domain, and maintained that the '85 and '89 bottlings of this wine are still young.) Wonderfully fine-grained Pouilly-Fuissé with an outstanding core of fruit. Finishes with outstanding palate-staining persistence and no impression of heaviness. I can imagine this wine going on for 20 years or more in bottle.

Pale, green-tinged yellow. Knockout tangy nose combines lime, white peach, chalk and flowers. Crunchy and primary, boasting lovely citrus lift to its very dense, salty, concentrated flavors. Superb harmonious acidity and strong dry extract give this wine excellent inner-mouth energy and clarity. Amazingly tasty early on for this cuvée , which shows a spicy free-run character. Really spreads out horizontally to dust the palate and builds inexorably on the spicy aftertaste, leaving no impression of heaviness. With its 14.5% alcohol and 4.6 g/l acidity, this wine should evolve gracefully for 12 to 15 years.
