Punteggio 91-93/100 · Da bere 2009-2019, Jeb Dunnuck, Nov 2009

Made in a Côte-Rôtie style, the 2006 Denner The Dirt Worshipper is a blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier and offers up lifted, bright aromatics. Meat, earth, herbs and subtle floral notes jump from the glass and this has deep, rich fruit, medium to full body, nice acidity and a medium to long finish. Drops off slightly on the finish.

Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2010-2016, Robert Parker, Jun 2008

The 2006 The Dirt Worshipper, a blend of 95% Syrah and 5% Viognier, is Denner’s interpretation of a French Cote Rotie. More noticeable stems as well as oak are in this cuvee. It exhibits a slightly pinched mouthfeel, and more firmness and austerity, making it difficult to rate highly, at least today. While it reveals a dark ruby/purple color as well as good weight and penetration on the palate, the impression of firmness and hardness is disquieting. Another year or two of bottle age may result in a more promising wine, but it is by no means a certainty. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016. Even in such a challenging vintage as 2006, this vineyard’s limestone soil characteristics are obvious in these four offerings’ precision, exceptional minerality, and definition. Most of these wines are made from various degrees of whole clusters and aged in 500-liter puncheons. Tel. (805) 239-4287; Fax (805) 239-0154
