There are only 86 cases of half bottles of the 2001 White Riesling Hoot Owl Vineyard Special Select Late Harvest. This beerenauslese/trockenbeernenauslese-styled offering has 28.5% residual sugar and 8.5% alcohol. It is stunningly syrupy, offering a gamut of lavishly rich flavors including orange marmalade, buttered citrus, honeysuckle, and caramelized candy and nuts. (for 375 ml.; 8.2% alcohol with 28.5% residual sugar) Medium gold. Dried apricot and honey on the nose. Supersweet, dense and thick, with a strong spice character. Has just enough acidity to avoid cloying but nevertheless seems a bit cooked and heavy for this style. Finishes with good length. Not in the class of the 2000.
