Dick Arrowood's 1999 White Riesling Hoot Owl Vineyard Special Select Late Harvest contains 8.4% alcohol and 25.6% residual sugar. Unctuously-textured, with vibrant acidity, and a decadently sweet trockenbeerenauslese style, it offers flavors of orange marmalade as well as honeyed tropical fruit. Pale gold color. Thoroughly botrytized aromas of apricot, honeysuckle, licorice and menthol, lifted by a note of white grapefruit. Very rich and thick, with the wine strong sweetness (25.6 grams/liter residual sugar) leavened by firm (9 g/l) acidity. With its superb fruit and concentrated acids, this rather powerful sweet wine should develop very slowly in bottle.
