The wine possesses tremendous density and richness in a medium to full-bodied style that is immensely appealing. This is one of the deeper, more masculine wines in the line-up. Vibrant mineral notes give the finish an extra burst of raw energy. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. Martinelli is one of the original pioneering families in Sonoma. I tasted a wide range of wines during a recent visit. The 2008 Syrahs, from a challenging vintage, are a bit up and down, but the rest of the wines are all outstanding. Bright ruby-red. Spicy red berries and cherry on the nose, with suave floral and Asian spice qualities adding complexity. Raspberry and cherry flavors are framed by dusty tannins and given a tangy edge by bitter berry skin and blood orange. Quite deep but surprisingly brisk and refreshing, with excellent closing thrust and cling.
