From barrel, the 2015 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrieres offers up a lovely nose of green pear, apple, chamomile and wheat toast, framed by light reduction which dissipates in the glass. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, bright and penetrating, with a lovely line of acidity, good depth and concentration, and nice chalky grip on the long finish. This was one of the highlights of Pierre-Yves Colin's range from barrel, and it is equally compelling from bottle. Among Pierre-Yves' higher-appellation 2015s, which were all bottled in April 2017, it's also one of the more forthcoming in its youth, though its true potential will only be realized with bottle age.

Very pale, bright yellow. Initially very closed nose opened somewhat with air to reveal high-toned orange zest and spice character. Penetrating citrus flavors convey a very suave texture, with a strong impression of acidity giving the wine brilliant delineation for the year. Dense but weightless wine with outstanding mineral energy and length.

Cask sample. Higher parcel, calcareous but quite deep. ‘For me Genevrières isn’t inferior to Perrières,' says PYCM. Quite a deep greenish gold. Quite sumptuous nose! Nervy and tense but with great depth. This parcel does particularly well in hot years, apparently. Lip-smacking. (JR)

(this fruit was picked earlier than the Charmes, on the second day of the harvest): Bright, green-tinged lemon-yellow. Brisk aromas of lime zest and minerals. Tightly wound but also powerful and deep, with lime and white peach flavors still carrying a bit of unconverted green-apple malic acidity. A very promising, slowly evolving Meursault.
