The 2020 Meursault Les Perrières 1er Cru has a rather open-knit nose, pretty and seductive with orange blossom and quince, though it needs more terroir expression and mineralité . I could not identify this as Les Perrières if I drank it without knowing its origin. The palate is powerful and concentrated with honeyed yellow fruit and lower acidity. It is an uncomplicated wine that needs to forage more personality and terroir expression. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières is one of the more introverted wines in the range, unwinding to exhibit notes of lime zest, crisp Anjou pear, exotic fruits, white flowers and spices. Medium to full-bodied, chalky and saline, it may take on additional dimension with further élevage, but for now I'd rank this behind Charmes and Genevrières this year.
Tank sample. Mid lemon. Instant Perrières stoniness – like a slab of marble on a hot day. Lofty and lifted with a determined minerality. Calming and authoritative. (MH)
