2014 Domaine des Comtés Lafon Meursault Porusots 1er Cru

The 2014 Meursault Les Porusots 1er Cru has a light nose at first, with touches of wild fennel infusing the citrus fruit. It's quite refined, although juxtaposing the two, I find a tad more mineralité on the Clos de la Barre. The palate has good weight but seems to sag toward the finish. Maybe the bottle was slightly heat-affected? Tasted at the Southwold Burgundy dinner at Hatched restaurant.

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Porusots was very concentrated and intense on the nose, some SO2 to be addressed (like many of its peers) but underneath lies plenty of fruit with hints of passion fruit and grapefruit. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity that counters the rich, slightly honeyed fruit. This is a Meursault of stature and breadth and while not the most detailed, certainly packed full of flavor.

(this has been in tank since February; like the Charmes, it was on its finings at the end of May and will get a later bottling): Bright yellow-green. Reticent aromas of apple and green almond are a bit less refined than those of the Gouttes d'Or. Less sweet and pliant in the mouth as well, but with excellent citrus and white pepper cut and sappy energy. The gripping, saline finish features excellent mounting length.
