Punteggio 90+/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2013

Good medium ruby, a bit less saturated than the Acteon. Cassis, blueberrry, licorice, herbs and mint on the rather cool nose. Rather dry and uncompromising on the palate, with medicinal black fruit flavors accompanied by tobacco leaf and a slightly rustic leathery quality. Is there enough mid-palate stuffing here to support the rather tough tannins? Aaron Pott did a shorter maceration for this wine than for the Acteon.

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2015-2025, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2012

The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Her Majesty's Secret Service Stagecoach Vineyard boasts serious depth, density and power. Dark, red berries, sweet spices, crushed flowers and licorice are all woven together in this round, succulent wine. Mocha, tobacco and flowers appear on the finish. Overall, this is a fairly delicate and refined version of the M5 parcel within the Stagecoach Vineyard. The wine with an impossibly long name is also a fairly accessible 2010 that should drink well pretty much upon release.

I was deeply struck by Aaron Pott’s wines this year. The 2010s are terrific, but the bigger story, at least today, is how promising the 2011s are. Pott sources fruit from a handful of top sites, including Stagecoach (on the Pritchard Hill-Atlas Peak border), Quixote (Stags’ Leap) and Greer (Rutherford). Tel. (707) 226-3277
