Despite weighing in at a labeled 15.2% alcohol, Hall's 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain District is impressively floral and expressive, with hints of lavender, sage and bay bringing welcome nuance to the cassis and black cherry fruit. It's full-bodied and creamy-silky in feel, but tannic and streamlined in shape, reflecting its mountain origins. Focused and long on the finish, it's a lovely example of its AVA.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain District comes from the northwestern region of the valley, which is a warmer, mountainous terroir. Blackcurrants, scorched earth, graphite, new leather, and savory herb notes all shine in this beauty, a power-packed 2021 with a great mid-palate, ripe, velvety tannins, beautiful overall balance, and a great finish. It has a certain generosity and opulence that should allow it to offer pleasure in its youth, yet it still has plenty of classic Diamond Mountain tannins and structure and will be very long-lived.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain District is a dense, packed wine. I imagine it will be even better in another year or two, once the formidable tannins soften a bit. A core of dark red-toned fruit, spice, menthol, licorice and blood orange begins to emerge with air, but this needs time to be at its best. Vineyard sites are Rainin and Constant.
