Medium bright straw-yellow. Perfumed nose offers smoky oak, brown spices, flowers and a meaty nuance, plus a whiff of musky lees; I might have guessed gewurztraminer! Then fat, round and soft on the palate, with a lightly glyceral quality to its musky, spicy flavors. Just manages to hold its shape on the back end.

Staglin's 2012 Chardonnay is gorgeous. Peach, nectarine, lemon oil, white flowers, mint, butter and honey all flesh out in this voluptuous, creamy, expressive Chardonnay. All the elements come together beautifully in the glass. The 2012 is textured, open and drop-dead gorgeous. The Staglin Chardonnay presents a gorgeous combination of California richness along with the considerable energy that blocking the malolactic fermentation preserves.
