2003 Behrens Family Alder Springs Cuvée

From the cooler climate Mendocino vineyard of Alder Springs, the 2003 Alder Springs Cuvee (43% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, and 14% Syrah; 15.7% alcohol) exhibits a sexy nose of blue, black, and red fruits, a dense purple color, good purity, a sweet entry on the palate, low acidity, oodles of fruit, and an unctuous texture. Drink it during its first 5-6 years of life. I can’t say enough good things about Behrens and Hitchcock. This is the type of winery operation that gives hope to aspiring home winemakers who want to make it in the big time. They have followed their dreams, unearthed top vineyards that were available to everybody, and are making non-interventionalistic wines of extraordinary personality and character.
