There is so much to like in Crocker & Starr's 2012 Cabernet Franc. A warm, resonant wine, the 2012 blossoms on the palate with tons of pure varietal character. Grilled herbs, mocha, cedar and new leather are all laced together in an absolutely exquisite wine endowed with gorgeous resonance and depth. The flavors are broad and expansive throughout. I expect the 2012 will offer a wide drinking window of pleasure over the next 10-15 years, perhaps longer.

Pam Starr appears to have missed the boat ever so slightly with her 2012 Cabernet Franc, which is much lighter in style than I would have expected for this vintage. It exhibits damp, earthy terroir notes intermixed with fresh redcurrant, almost pomegranate notes that are more suggestive of Pinot Noir than Cabernet Franc, good acidity and a modest finish. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.
Moderately saturated bright ruby. Much sweeter on the nose and palate than the 2011 version, beginning with scents of blueberry, blackberry and menthol. Rich and ripe in the mouth but at the same time dry and serious, with a deep chocolatey character adding interest to the dark berry flavors. Finishes with substantial but ripe tongue-dusting tannins. From 16- and 20-year-old vines.
