The medium ruby-colored 2015 Pinot Noir Roman Vineyard comes from another Anderson Valley vineyard and has a complex, medium-bodied, balanced personality. Savory cherries, dried orange peel, and earth characteristics all emerge from this fresh, vibrant wine that shows the house style. This is another estate making a distinctly vibrant, fresh style of wine that’s going to appeal to the Burgundy lovers out there. It’s an incredibly educational tasting going through all these different single vineyards from Ted Lemon and these are interesting, singular wines. As a whole, the 2015s shows slightly more oomph compared to the 2016s, yet both vintages have vibrant acidity and balanced profiles. As expected, quantities are slightly up in 2016.

Kirsch, wild cherry, star anise and blood orange give the 2015 Pinot Noir Roman Vineyard many of its exotic signatures. Time has fleshed out the fruit, which gives the Roman a more integrated and approachable feel than it showed a year ago. White pepper, cranberry, orange peel and spice, along with a dollop of whole cluster savoriness, add depth and dimension. This is another gorgeous Pinot from Littorai.

Punteggio 90-93/100 · Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2017

The 2015 Pinot Noir Roman Vineyard is one of the most tightly wound, reticent wines in this range. Very little of the showiness of 2015 comes through in this tasting. Wiry, vibrant and salivating, the 2015 still needs quite a bit of time to come together. Sweet red cherry, cranberry, white pepper and chalk give the wine an attractive upper register. This is an especially taut, nervous style for the year. The vines' struggle against the difficult conditions of the season are evident.

Wonderful fruit expression of dried strawberry and fresh mushroom with spice and tile. Full body, firm and tannic with an intense finish. This is wine to cellar. Great structure. Drink in 2021.
