Punteggio 92/100 · Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, May 2012

Pale gold. Suave, oak-spiced lemon, lime, marzipan and iodine aromas are lifted by a bright floral element. Focused and powerful, showing intense citrus and orchard fruit character and suggestions of honeysuckle and vanilla bean. Very long and stony on the iodiney finish.

Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2013-2019, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2012

The 2009 Chardonnay Lolita Ranch caresses the palate with dried apricots, lemon, spices and white flowers, all supported by a persistent vein of underlying minerlaity. The Lolita Ranch captures plenty of Martinelli exuberance in a slightly restrained style. I imagine the Lolita Ranch will continue to drink well for at least another handful of years.

Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. Martinelli is one of the original pioneering families in Sonoma. I tasted a wide range of wines during a recent visit. The 2008 Syrahs, from a challenging vintage, are a bit up and down, but the rest of the wines are all outstanding. As always, these are fairly bold, extroverted wines, but their overall balance is typically superb. Tel. (707) 525-0570

Martinelli

Martinelli is a Sonoma benchmark for vineyard-designate bottlings—wines built to highlight how strongly a single site can shape Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Zinfandel. Across the range, the focus stays consistent: small-production bottlings that feel distinctly tied to where they’re grown.
