Medium garnet-purple in color, the 2007 Zinfandel Jackass Vineyard offers a drop-dead gorgeous nose of potpourri, cinnamon stick, star anise, sandalwood and Sichuan pepper with a core of fruitcake, blueberry preserves and raspberry pie with waft of dried herbs and cigar box. Super concentrated and unashamedly bold in the mouth, it has a solid backbone of grainy tannins and lively acid perfectly supported with opulent fruit, finishing epically long.

Bright red. An explosively perfumed bouquet displays blackberry, rose and violet oil, gardenia, cinnamon, mace and smoky minerals. Fat, palate-staining red and dark berry flavors reach every corner of the palate, betraying no rough edges, tannins or warmth. Gains energy with air, finishing with nervy berry and cherry skin notes and excellent clarity. This is the type of wine that I'd like to drink by itself.
