Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2020-2028, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Dec 2018

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Teucer is a very pretty wine that shows how Cabernets from this Coombsville site develop with a few years in bottle. Scents of leather, smoke, tobacco, cedar, menthol, licorice and dark chocolate add gorgeous nuance, while the tannins are starting to gently melt away. The Teucer shows the aromatic intensity and energy that is such a signature of this often overlooked Napa Valley vintage.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Teucer is a huge, flamboyant wine. Another year in bottle has not done much to soften the fierce tannins. That's a shame, because there is a huge core of fruit just waiting to emerge from the shadows.

The single vineyard wines start with the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Teucer Vineyard from Coombsville. This is another beauty from this winery, which seems to be begging to be taken seriously, and justifiably so. This wine’s inky purple color, blueberry and black raspberry fruit, touches of minerality and licorice, full-bodied opulence, stunning concentration and texture, and long, long finish make for a prodigious example of Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon. I don’t know much about the Teucer Vineyard, but it has certainly provided a compelling reason to find out more about it. This wine should drink well for 25-30 years.

The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Teucer Vineyard comes across as heavy and sweet with prominent torrefaction notes that completely dominate the fruit. I don't see the tannins ever softening here.
