2014 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny Les Charmes 1er Cru

Attractive medium deep colour, floral notes, soft red fruit, quite typically Chambolle. On the verge of green notes, but the acidity is not aggressive. Tight but with potential. Really grows in the glass Tasted Sep 2017.

Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Chambolle Musigny 1Er Cru les Charmes from Ghislaine Barthod has a ripe and generous bouquet with generous red berry fruit, spice and subtle undergrowth scents—complex and beautifully defined. The palate is very well balanced with fine delineation, quite sensual in the mouth with beautifully integrated oak and a sensual, silky smooth finish that attests to some very thoughtful winemaking. What a gorgeous and utterly sublime wine.

Medium red. Raspberry, minerals, roast coffee and sexy soil tones on the inviting nose. The creamy red berry and floral flavors are lifted by menthol and spice notes. This alluring young Charmes boasts excellent sucrosité and texture for the vintage. Finishes with ripe tannins and excellent length. Should offer early accessibility but really needs cellaring to deliver on its inherent complexity.
