More scorched earth, chocolate, graphite, and gravelly earth notes emerge from the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon QUINTVS and it’s a concentrated, full-bodied, structured, yet beautifully balanced 2013. It doesn’t quite have the power or dimensions of its big brother yet it's not far off and is unquestionably a stunning wine. It’s just now on the early stages of its prime drink window and it’s going to evolve gracefully over the coming 20-25 years. The 2013 spent 22 months in 75% new French oak.

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Quintvs, which is also from their Howell Mountain estate, is a larger cuvée of 825 cases, aged 21 months in 95% new French oak. Less expensive than the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, it is still relatively pricey. This wine offers notes of deep red and blackcurrant fruits, licorice, vanillin and barbecue spices, a full-bodied mouthfeel, terrific ripeness, density and purity. It is not quite structured and as massively endowed as the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, but still impressive. Drink over the next 15+ years.
Tight, needs air and time before the freshness and purity of the fruits start to show their character. Full bodied, concentrated and deep, there is an elegance to the powerful tannins which says a lot about Howell Mountain fruit. Big, balanced and powerful, this needs to lay down before it’s civilized. 94 Points
