The 2007 Zinfandel Bacigalupi Vineyard exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as a big, briery nose of wild strawberries, raspberries, pepper, and incense. There is enough acidity to balance out the wine’s richness, full-bodied power, and potent alcohol (nearly 15%). This cuvee should age nicely for 7-8 years. The single vineyard Pinot Noirs are made from a wide range of California vineyards, primarily in the north, with Russian River and Sonoma Coast dominating, but there is also an Anderson Valley site (Ferrington), San Benito site (Vista Verde), and Yorkville Highlands (Weir). Deep ruby. Brooding aromas of cherry and dark berry skin, with a strong wallop of cracked pepper and brown spices adding complexity. Syrah-like in its intensity and spiciness, offering deep blackberry and cassis flavors and a weighty, chewy texture. The broad, gently sweet finish leaves a strong peppery note behind. Put this one away for at least five years, then serve it with grilled lamb.
