Punteggio 93/100 · Da bere 2020-2030, Jeb Dunnuck, Jun 2019

From the estate vineyard and fermented with 48% whole clusters, the 2016 Syrah Harrison Grade spent 18 months in one-third new 500-liter puncheons. The Hermitage in the lineup, it has a smoky, meaty bouquet of blackcurrants, camphor, graphite that gives way to a medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated, elegant Syrah that has plenty of tannins, terrific purity, and a classic bloody, gamey, Syrah character.

The 2016 Syrah Harrison Grade Estate is developing into a very pretty and expressive wine. Savory herb, leather, licorice, smoke and black cherry are finely sketched in a Syrah that speaks with a real sense of distinction. The Harrison Grade remains the most reticent of the 2016 Syrahs in this tasting, but its day will come. Readers should expect a wild, gamy, powerful style with quite a bit of whole cluster influence.

The 2016 Syrah Harrison Grade Estate is the most reticent of the three 2016 Syrahs I tasted from Radio-Coteau. Savory herbs, crushed rocks, graphite, smoke, lavender, sage, game and tobacco gradually reveal themselves, but the 2016 remains a bit linear and compact. Although a bit reluctant today, I suspect the Harrison Grade has a lot to say, once it has had a chance to fully come together.
