The 2013 Grenache Lumiere Larner Vineyard is fascinating to taste after the Bien Nacido. Here the flavors are quite darker and richer. The tannic structure is also quite present, which gives the wine much of its broad shoulders and overall shape. Hints of smoke, game, tar and licorice wrap around a core of dark blue/purplish fruit, adding to an overall impression of gravitas.

A pretty, layered effort, the 2013 Grenache Lumiere Larner Vineyard is just about as pure and elegant as they come. Giving up lots of black raspberries, crushed violets, spiced black cherries, candied licorice and a touch of wet stone-like minerality, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, no hard edges, perfectly integrated acidity and a clean finish that shows fine tannin. It's already hard to resist and I see no reason to delay gratification.
