2016 Domaine Raveneau Chablis

The 2016 Chablis Villages wasn't too heavily impacted by the year's frosts, and it's quite classic in profile, offering up aromas of lemon oil, grapefruit pith, white flowers and crisp apples. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, elegantly glossy and bright, with a fleshy core underpinned by bright acids and a tangy, mouthwatering finish.

(from a crop level of 45 hectoliters per hectare, which Isabelle Raveneau described as "more normal" than the Petit Chablis; she also described this wine as more typical in style): Bright pale yellow. Good mineral lift to the lemon zest aroma. Juicier and tighter than the Petit Chablis but still with enticing sweetness and pliancy. Sweet lemon and apple flavors dominate. A very promising, rather easygoing but bright and nicely balanced village wine in the making. Finishes suave and quite persistent; the only thing lacking here is this village wine's usual element of almost painful minerality. Incidentally, Raveneau says that her 2015s finished a bit less dry than usual but still under one gram per liter!
