The 2014 Basilisk (Grenache) has been quite awkward in two recent tastings. There is a sense of over-ripeness in the fruit, but more than just that, the wine's balance is precarious. Something is not working here.

The Basilisk is one of the more linear of these 2014s, but that doesn't stop it from offering tons of intrigue. Sweet red stone fruit, citrus, white pepper, iron and host of expressive ferrous notes give the wine much of its freshness and overall personality.
