Offering up aromas of buttered apples, pear, praline and beeswax, the 2017 Meursault 1er Cru Goutte d'Or is medium to full-bodied, broad-shouldered and reserved, with impressive power and chalky extract, balanced by succulent acids. It's one of the more backward wines in the Lafon cellar this year.

Very clayey soils. Barrel sample. Smells ripe and dense. Much less aérien than the Bouchères. Creamy, inviting, broad and mealy on the palate, mouth-filling with more breadth than length. Caressing and just enough freshness to balance and give it zip. Real power and concentration. (JH)
(50 hectoliters per hectare produced): Bright, pale yellow-green. Complex nose melds tangerine, yellow peach and a touch of honey, lifted by minty high tones. At once sappy and plush, with its silky volume offset by sound acidity. This rich, very dry wine boasts good inner-mouth tension to its yellow fruit flavors but is a tad disjointed in the early going.
