His 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Herold (Brown Label) comes from three different sources: Coombsville, Stagecoach Vineyard and Oakville. This big, chewy, classic Cabernet Sauvignon, which is Mark Herold’s style, is dense purple, offering notes of crème de cassis, blackberry, licorice, forest floor and spice. The wine is soft, as most 2014s tend to be, and is a beauty to drink over the next 15 or so years. Production is only 250 cases.

Mark Herold's 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Brown Label is an intense, flamboyant wine. Super-ripe, dark and unctuous to the core, the 2014 offers up generous dark red/purplish fruit, spice, menthol, chocolate, leather and spice notes. The 2014 needs time to absorb its generous oak, but it is very pretty, even at this stage. Fruit sources are Coombsville, Stagecoach and Oakville Ranch.
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon (White Label) comes across as a bit restrained for a Mark Herold wine, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Blue and purplish hued stone fruits, graphite, spice and sage are all given an extra kick of brightness because of the personality of the vintage. This finely sculpted Cabernet is shaping up to be a real gem.
