2013 Pott Cabernet Sauvignon The Arsenal Greer Vineyard

A big-time wine is the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon The Arsenal from the Greer Vineyard in Rutherford. I believe this is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is dense purple, with loamy soil undertones interwoven with créme de cassis, blackberry, spice box and cedar wood. The wine is deep, rich opulent and a big-time winner with sweet tannins. This wine should drink well for two decades as well.

Nothing in particular stands out in the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon The Arsenal. Instead, it is the wine's overall balance that truly impresses. Lavender, mint, sweet spices and red stone fruit are all finely spun into the racy finish. Sadly, this is Pott's last vintage of The Arsenal, as proprietor Rob Greer has opted to keep all of the fruit for his own project.

Pott's 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon The Arsenal is a great example of the vintage. Powerful yet nuanced, the Arselan boasts marvelous depth and intensity. Mocha, plums and espresso wrap around a core of intense dark fruit. Brilliant acidity and huge tannins give the flavors an unmistakable sense of urgency. The 2013 is likely to require a few years in bottle to fully come together, but it is special, even at this early stage.
