Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2011-2020, Jeb Dunnuck, Nov 2010

A blend of 84% Syrah and massive 16% Viognier, the 2008 Foxen Syrah Toasted Rope spends 16 months in 500-liter Hungarian oak puncheons, 50% being new. The wine sports a ruby red, semi-transparent color as well as awesome aromatics of ripe red berry fruit, toasted spice, licorice, dried flowers and assorted meaty notes. This develops beautifully in the glass and has fragrant, elegant aromas with first-rate complexity. On the full side of medium bodied, this beauty is gorgeously texture with ripe, sweet fruit, a lush, borderline hedonistic texture, superb balance and a long classy finish. This isn’t a blockbuster or over the top in any way. Given how delicious it is now, I can’t see a reason to wait; drink over the next decade or so.

Punteggio 89/100 · Da bere 2010-2014, Robert Parker, Aug 2010

A blend of 84% Syrah and 16% Viognier, the 2008 Syrah Toasted Rope exhibits a medium ruby color (more like Grenache than Syrah) as well as a big, sweet bouquet of honeysuckle, tropical flora, and candied cherry and black currant-like fruit. This silky textured, opulent, lush, medium to full-bodied, charming Syrah should be drunk over the next 3-4 years. Foxen’s lighter-styled, more evolved 2008s are delicious, charming efforts without the density of the brilliant 2007s. However, do not underestimate them. Tel. (805) 937-4251
