Note di degustazione
(from the Page Nord Vineyard; includes 7% cabernet sauvignon) Saturated ruby. Flamboyant, rather Cote-Rotie-like aromas of black raspberry, bacon fat, cocoa powder, gunflint and exotic spices. Thick, sweet and creamy; almost confectionery in the mouth, with a lush, high-pH feel. Finishes with broad, sweet tannins and palate-staining persistence. If this goes into bottle with its vibrancy and grip intact, it should merit a score at the high end of my projected range.

The hyperactive Jack Russell terrier has now been honored with his own justifiably named cuvee. The 2002 Chien Lunatique is a blend of 93% Syrah and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon aged completely in 500 liter oak puncheons. One of the sexiest offerings in B and H’s seductive portfolio, it boasts a dense purple color as well as sumptuous aromas of charcoal-infused blackberry and cassis fruit, an unctuous texture, great fat and richness, low acidity, and sweet tannin. Already impossible to resist, it should drink beautifully for 6-8 years. I admire what Les Behrens, Bob Hitchcock, their wives, friends, and lunatic dog are doing at their winery and cellars on the top of Spring Mountain. They are obsessed fanatics who make wine with no compromises ... obviously my kind of people. Tel. 707-963-1774; Fax 707-963-8206
