Note di degustazione
Philippe Melka made a 2014 Syrah, the Majestique, from the Paderewski Vineyard in Paso Robles. A hundred percent Syrah, aged in 71% new French oak, this wine does come across like a Northern Rhône, with a dense ruby/purple color, notes of crème de cassis, licorice and a hint of black olive tapenade in a long, lusty, heady style. Delicious already, it will continue to drink well for at least another 10 or more years.

The 2014 Syrah Paderewski Vineyard is quite a bit darker and inkier than the 2013 tasted alongside it. A host of blue and purplish fruit, spice, menthol and licorice all open up in the glass. Soft, sensual and also beautifully detailed, the 2014 offers plenty of potential. Lavender, mint, violets and dark spices add the final layers of nuance.
The 2014 Syrah Majestique, from the Paderewski Vineyard in Paso Robles, is dark, sumptuous and super-expressive. Fermentation in 500-liter barrels adds textural richness and overall intensity. The 2014 was done with 15% whole clusters, but what comes out most is the sheer luxuriousness of the fruit. I had a hard time moving past this wine because of its incredibly inviting personality.
