Good red-ruby. Black cherry, minerals and chocolate on the inviting nose. Supple and fairly full, showing a more pliant mid-palate texture than the Alliance blend. Plum and cherry flavors come across as sweeter too, but the wine also possesses harmonious acidity and dusty tannins that give it shape. Finishes with a repeating mineral element.

The 2009 Red Wine Harmonie, a blend of 51% Merlot, 43% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, seems to work better than the Alliance, probably because the greater presence of Merlot in the blend gives the wine an attractive fleshiness that is missing in Alliance. Dark red cherries, flowers, mint and French oak are some of the notes that are layered into the finish.

Quite frankly, I expected more from Capture considering the involvement of well-known consulting oenologists Denis and May-Britt Malbec. For now Capture remains a work in progress.
