The 2009 Mayozeres-Chambertin emerges from the glass with silky, perfumed red fruit. It possesses striking inner perfume and plenty of freshness in an attractive, medium-bodied style that is undeniably appealing. Floral notes add brightness and lift on the expressive, resonant finish. The Mayozeres is soft, sensual and totally beautiful. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. I was deeply impressed with Christophe Perrot-Minot’s 2009s. The wines are rich and powerful in the Perrot-Minot style, yet also shine with tons of energy. New oak was 20% for the village level wines, 30% for the premier crus and 30-50% for the grand crus, topping out at 50% for the Chambertin. Importer: Martine’s Wines. Novato, CA; tel. (415) 883-040

Dark red. Wild aromas of blackberry, licorice, coffee and animal fur. Lush and sweet on entry, then expansive in the middle, with dark berry flavors supported by a strong structure. This is really stuffed with fruit, and there's enough energy here to avoid coming off as heavy. Finishes with big, broad, dusty tannins and superb lingering sweetness. An excellent showing today, but this should be even better for a decade in the cellar.
Deep ruby-red. Sauvage aromas of black fruits, game, licorice, violet, tobacco and menthol, plus a whiff of fresh blood. Juicy and youthfully imploded; in fact, this powerful wine is a bit brutal today. Finishes very long and medicinal, with serious tannic clout. Today I prefer the Charmes.
