A standout in this range, the 2016 Pinot Noir Terra Neuma is quiet brooding today. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of dark fruit. Black cherry, plum, lavender, spice and graphite add layers of complexity as this potent, structured Pinot gradually opens in the glass. I would prefer to cellar the 2016 for at least a few years, as it is imposing and not especially accessible today.

The 2016 Pinot Noir Terra Neuma is always one of the more savory, pungent wines in this range. Rose petal, white pepper, lavender, sage and mint all lift from the glass. The 2016 was done with only a dollop (15%) of whole clusters, but the flavor and structural profiles suggest otherwise. Clean mineral notes add a sense of urgency to the super-expressive finish.
