Healthy ruby-red. Slightly high-toned aromas of cassis, blueberry, bitter chocolate, licorice pastille, menthol and road tar freshened by an herbal element; this bottle mostly avoided the port-like quality of an earlier sample. Plump, savory and soil-driven, with a subtle sweetness to its plum, mocha and chocolate flavors. A concentrated, medium-to-full-bodied Cabernet with sexy fruit sweetness and nicely integrated acidity. Perhaps a bit unrefined but the acidity is in harmony with the wine's fruit. Finishes with dusty, well-supported tannins and good plummy persistence. Quite pleasing now for its texture and sweetness. Extended aeration brought a building ruby port note as the wine's firm tannic backbone became more apparent.

Deceptively medium in body, the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Cemetery is endowed with serious depth and power. Plums, violets, menthol, espresso and cloves all come alive in this rich, structured Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2010 needs another year or two for the tannins to better integrate, but the wine is strikingly beautiful, even today. A precise, crystalline finish laced with sweet floral notes and licorice rounds things out in style.

The Behrens Family Cabernets are all about textural richness and sheer opulence, qualities all of these wines have in spades. Tel. (707) 963-1774
