Punteggio 91/100 · Da bere 2020-2028, Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jan 2018

The 2015 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is a dense, powerful wine that shows the natural intensity of the last year in the four year drought cycle. Powerful and concentrated in the glass, the 2015 packs a serious punch. Readers will have to be patient with the 2015, as it is in no mood to show all its cards, much less deliver the pleasure it ultimately will.

Juts 250 cases made of this wine from a 100% whole cluster, no new oak wine from a three-clone vineyard 550 ft above the ocean, 8.4 miles from it. Some lean, sinewy notes on the nose. Racy with apparent bone dry, elegant fruit. Less rich than the McDougall Ranch. Very cool and low key and rather suave and laconic. Love the minerally finish!

Whole cluster fermentation, wild years aged for 17 months in old oak. Unfiltered and unfined. Light crimson and really voluptuously scented – violets? Lovely stuff. Just a little bit sweeter than perfection but a really nice approachable fine Pinot chock full of ripe fruit and an appetising chalky finish. (JR)

The 2015 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is bold, dark and racy. Black cherry, plum, smoke, leather and licorice notes show the richness and intensity of the year. At times, the flavors are a bit roasted. Unfinished wines can be deceptive, especially if sulfur levels are on the low side. It will be interesting to see where things end up from bottle. Vineyard sources are Campbell Ranch, Hellenthan and Bohan.
