A stunning, riveting wine, the 2018 Heritage Wine Pagani Ranch is the most complete of the four Sonoma Valley bottlings in the range. Unctuous red cherry fruit, pomegranate, mint, blood orange an spice are some of the many aromas and flavors that develop over time. More than that, though, the Pagani Ranch is endowed with striking dimension and resonance. Today, it is a real showstopper.

Ridge made wine from this vineyard from 1990. It’s two miles north of Old Hill with much more ash and volcanic-origin soils. Late ripening. Includes among the vines Lenoir that is not vinifera but used as a rootstock. Much more continental climate than Old Hill. Always the darkest and picked 3–4 weeks after the rest of the wines. Rich and peppery. Firm and warm. Quite claret-like in its structure. Rather majestic with firm, ripe tannins. A little reminiscent of a Douro red in terms of structure. (JR)
