Punteggio 97/100 · Da bere 2016-2037, Jay S Miller, Wine Advocate, Apr 2010

The 2007 Amelia is a single barrel cuvee made from a special parcel of 100+-year-old Tempranillo vines. It was aged for 18 months in a new Darnajou barrel. Purple-colored, it proffers a compelling bouquet of sandalwood, mineral, Asian spices, truffle, black currant, and blackberry. On the palate it has superb volume, intensity, complexity, and density. Savory, suave, and pleasure-bent, it merits an additional 6-8 years of cellaring. This lengthy, pure offering will offer a drinking window extending from 2016 to 2037. The first vintage of Dominio de Pingus, owned and produced by Peter Sisseck, was in 1995. The estate has been biodynamically farmed since 2000 and the wines are bottled without fining or filtration. (there's just a single barrel of this juice) Bright violet. Explosively perfumed nose shows an exotic array of red and dark berry scents, with notes of bayberry, sandalwood and smoke adding complexity. Burgundy-like in weight and texture, with sweet raspberry and cherry flavors underscored by smoky spices and minerals. Whatever tannins are here have been sucked up by the sweet fruit, for now. Finishes with impressive energy and lingering spice and red berry notes.
