A decidedly powerful, virile wine, the 2012 Syrah Dusty Lane races from the glass with intense blue and black-toned fruit, melted road tar, game, incense and smoke. Savory varietal notes lie in the background in a Syrah that emphasizes structure. Hints of lavender, violets, smoke and jasmine add the final layers of complexity.
Also from Goldridge soils, the 2012 Syrah Dusty Lane includes 10% whole clusters. A beautiful wine, it boasts good underlying acidity, meaty, black olive/tapenade notes, and a Northern Rhône Hermitage or high-end Crozes-Hermitage-like character. Full-bodied and dense with good tannic structure as well as impressive purity and complexity, it was aged 21 months in 500-liter French pungeons, of which 30% were new. Drink it over the next decade.
Inky purple. Highly perfumed scents of blackberry, cherry pit, Asian spices and violet, with intense pepper and mineral notes building with air. Juicy, penetrating and appealingly sweet, offering fresh red and dark berry and floral pastille flavors and a nervy mineral underpinning. this vibrant, precise, syrah finishes with lovely clarity and harmonious tannins.
