Note di degustazione
The 2013 Syrah Dusty Lane presents a distinctly savory profile to match its intense, dark fruit. The inclusion of 38% whole clusters add considerable aromatic complexity, while beams of supporting tannin and acidity give the wine its sense of proportion. Dark cherry, plum, pomegranate, menthol, licorice, earthiness and black pepper are fused into the huge, enveloping finish. The tannins need a few years to settle down, but there is a lot to look forward to once that happens.

I was blown away by the four Syrahs that Eric Sussman is producing. One of two prodigious Syrahs include the 2013 Syrah Dusty Lane. This comes from John Alban’s clonal selections, probably accessed from Chave or Chapoutier Hermitage vineyards in France. Utilizing 38% whole-clusters, bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is a killer Syrah. Opaque purple in color, with notes of steak tartare, blackberry, cassis, camphor and melted asphalt, this wine is full-bodied, super-majestic, multidimensional, and just a fabulous, rich, savory offering with moderate tannin. It will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and drink well for 15-20 years. It’s a compelling Syrah from Eric Sussman.
