The opaque purple-colored 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is more broodingly backward, offering notes of forest floor, damp earth, black currants and other black fruits, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and lofty tannins that have yet to melt away completely. It will benefit from 3-4 years of bottle age and should drink well over the following two decades. Some terrific Cabernet Sauvignons are emerging from Sonoma, and Kamen Estate’s 2009 and 2010 Cabernets both merit attention, especially from readers who believe Napa makes the only great California Cabernet Sauvignons. The two luxury cuvees, made, I assume, from the best barrels, include the 2009 and 2010 Cashmere, both of which are profound examples of Cabernet Sauvignon that could rival the finest from Napa in a blind tasting. I am totally enthralled by Kamen's 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon, without question the most elegant wine I have tasted from this site on the hills outside Napa. Veins of chiseled, precise fruit come alive in the glass. Hints of dark red and black fruits lead to all sorts of flowers in a Cabernet Sauvignon that impresses for its total sense of elegance and polish. There is a lot to look forward to here.
The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is an exciting wine bursting with violets, mint, graphite, flowers and licorice. The wine reveals gorgeous delineation and terrific overall balance. A long, saline finish leaves a lasting impression. This intense, mineral-driven Cabernet is very typical of the year.
