Initially, this wine is all about strawberry tart, with layers of cardamom and white pepper as well as hints of blueberry and blackberry on the back palate. Offering high-toned fruit and acidity, it settles on the finish, becoming rich and full bodied in style, with final notes of nutmeg, vanilla and chocolate. — Virginie Boone

The 2012 Pinot Noir Foss Vineyard seems to possess more plumpness and flesh than some of its siblings as well as lower acids and possibly a higher pH. Notes of black cherries and wet pebbles give the wine some minerality, and the finish is medium-bodied with a slightly lusher mouthfeel. Drink now-2022. Tel. (707) 433-6425
Ruby-red. A wild, smoky bouquet evokes dried red berries, cherry pit, licorice and cured meat. Sappy and focused on the palate, offering spicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a subtle herbal quality. Distinctly Old World in style, finishing with firm grip and excellent spicy persistence. Those used to the typically polished wines produced here might find this bottling perplexing, but Burgundy lovers should love it.
