(4.7 grams per liter acidity): Bright, pale yellow. Pineapple and pungent minerals on the nose. Large-scaled, powerful and penetrating, boasting outstanding concentration and finesse to its lemon and dusty stone flavors. Finishes extremely long and bracing, with quintessential Perrières density and wet-stone minerality. This is Meursault Perrières at grand cru level--hardly the first time for this superb producer. Both this wine and the Charmes are high in acidity but have so much texture and depth that it's barely apparent.

The 2014 Meursault 1er Cru les Perrières possesses a taut, granitic and slightly fumé-style bouquet that is well defined. It is not as expressive as the Genevrières, though it is very typical of the vineyard. The palate is fresh on the entry with hints of mandarin and dried apricot infusing the citrus fruit. There is excellent weight and penetration here, although I would like to see just a touch more mineral nerve come through on the finish by the time it is in bottle. Still, another sublime offering from Pierre-Yves.

Barrel sample. From the low part of the vineyard. He prefers cool vintages in Perrières. Rich and flavourful with some sweetness and less of the tension than some other cuvées but massive build still. I’d love this! Lots to chew on. (JR)

(these vines in the lower part of the cru are nearly 60 years old and were not damaged by hail in 2014, according to Colin-Morey): Musky aroma of pineapple and wet stone. Boasts compelling sweetness buffered by mineral-rich dry extract and a compelling saline quality. Like a mouthful of liquefied rock. Most impressive on the tactile, sappy, explosively long finish, which spreads out horizontally to saturate the palate.
