Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2014 tasting, the 2014 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru les St-Georges has a clean and pure bouquet; although at the moment, there appears to still be some new oak to be subsumed. But I like the sensuality of these aromatics that are more 2015 in style than 2014. The palate is medium-bodied with a fleshy opening: dark cherries, allspice, a pinch of white pepper and a slightly herbaceous, verbena tea-tinged finish that gently fans out. Quintessential, modern-day Chevillon really—superb. Tasted September 2017.

Healthy bright red. Subtly complex aromas of raspberry, dried flowers, smoky minerality and earth show terrific stony verve. Thick yet somehow crystalline on the palate, conveying a powerful impression of energy and sappy lift to the flavors of crushed raspberry, darker berries and minerals. Finishes with a firm tannic spine and terrific length and finesse. This boasts near-grand cru class.
